A year after Anakin left Shmi, the Midi-chlorians came to her again and this time she had a daughter, but the girl was always living in Anakin's shadow. She was quiet and withdrawn. She felt nothing she ever did was good enough since she always heard how good Anakin could have done it. Watto didn't want her since she wasn't good at fixing things though she did make a non working lightsaber. When Shmi married Lars, went off by herself a lot. Living in the port city of Mos Espa and hanging out amongst the traders and pilots, languages came very easily to Maya. Then, after Shmi was taken by the Tuskan raiders, Maya would start walking off alone, figuring that if she went far enough then she'd find her mother. Lars finally had to lock her in her room to keep her from wandering off. However, everything changed when Anakin returned.
 
Unbeknownst to him, she watched Anakin and studied him. She watched and copied the mighty Jedi. Anakin was so blinded by his need to save Shmi that he never knew that Maya followed him to the Raider's camp that day and watched him slaughter them. He left after the funeral without ever saying a word to her. Then a week or so later, the camp was raided again. Maya was 8 then. Shmi lived with the Tuskans for a month, however, Maya did for 4 years beating her as well as tying her to a frame and whipping her back. These scars she still has. She was 'saved' when Darth Maul and a group of men stormed the Raider camp. She thought they were Jedi and when Maul lifted her into his arms so gently she just curled against him and felt like she never wanted to leave his arms. She felt wanted for the first time (or so she thought) and she didn't really care what it took to stay in that position but she soon learned the truth and fought with all she had. Later Anakin and Obi-Wan were captured as well. Anakin finally met the sister he never knew.
